TELLURIDE:

Up at 8,750 feet, the Town of Telluride is located at the end of a box canyon in the southwest corner of Colorado in the spectacular-jagged San Juan Mountains.

The ski area comes right into not only Telluride but also the town of Mountain Village. The views from Telluride are spectacular as countless peaks up to fourteen thousand feet surround the town. On a sunny day you look all the way to Utah.

The Ute Indians first called the Telluride Valley home until Manifest Destiny and the mining exploration of the mid-1800’s. Telluride was originally called Columbia when the rowdy mining camp became a town in 1878, and then changed its name to Telluride. With the arrival of the railroad in 1890, the remote town boomed to over 5,000 residents. The boom of Telluride was soon followed by the bust, and Telluride became a small mining town into the 1900’s.
In 1973, Telluride reinvented itself once again. The Telluride Ski Resort opened and the character of the community changed again (The miners liked to say that the hippies were taking over the town). Soon cultural events, festivals, music, and performing arts were founded, making Telluride a year round destination resort.
Due to its significant role in the history of the American West, the core area of Telluride was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1964. This listing is the highest level of historic status available to sites designated by the United States Secretary of the Interior. The sites are so special that, in theory, they are eligible for consideration as National Parks.

The Mountain Village also has several amenities such as a high-end grocery store, private free shuttle for its residents and guests, public parking and the free gondola service to Telluride.

Capella Telluride: The only 5-star, ski in-out hotel and residential property in the Mountain Village or Telluride. Capella has 100 Hotel Condo rooms and 60 private condos, all of which are finely appointed. Joaquin and Serapio, the original Aldasoro Brothers, left their Basque homeland in the Spanish Pyrenees and made the purchase here on Deep Creek Mesa in Telluride in 1926, consisted of a small plot of land on Deep Creek Mesa. They acquired 11 of the surrounding homesteads, becoming Aldasoro Ranch. At the ranch’s peak there were 5,000 acres, supporting thousands of sheep. Sunnyside Ranch: One of the last great ranch properties at any resort in the Rocky Mountain West sits on a beautiful and secluded bench just above the town of Telluride. West Meadows: Located across from the Mountain Village entrance is West Meadows. The homesites are situated to offer privacy and unobstructed views.
